Cogent Biometrics

Cogent Biometrics is one of the companies that is known for providing biometric authentication software. They have a lot of contracts within the public sector, including homeland security and various police departments. Their fingerprint authentication software uses algorithms and can identify more than 110 unique points on a fingerprint.

Cogent biometrics software is one of the main types of software used for the Automated Fingerprint Identification Systems, or AFIS. They sell their products all over the world, not just in the United States.

Cogent biometrics software can be tailored for us by government agencies, law enforcement agencies, and corporations. They will tailor their software to work with any existing systems you are already using, making it a very functional solution.

Cogent biometrics products include the Cogent AFIS system, the Cogent Automated Palmprint and Fingerprint Identification System (CAPFIS), and CAPFIS Prime, which is meant for local law enforcement. They also sell a Programmable Matching Accelerator (PMA).

Cogent Biometrics also include mobile products that work with BlackBerries, laptops, and other BlueTooth enabled products. These products include the BlueCheck Mobile Fingerprint Scanner, which can be used with their Web ID system to get verification over the internet. They also make Mobile Ident II which can capture fingerprints and mug shots remotely and uses BlueTooth to download them for matching either on the spot or off site.

For military applications, they make the Fusion, which is a multi-modal biometric handheld device that can capture all sorts of biometric data including fingerprints, iris images, photos, and textual data. It can store over 10,000 records and weighs just over a pound. It was made to fit into tactical trouser pockets so that it would be easy to use on the ground in military situations.

For law enforcement purposes, Cogent Biometrics includes a LiveScan Booking Station, as well as Desktop and Mobile variations of this system. They even make a Mugshot system. The mobile products like the BlueCheck, Mobile Ident II, and Fusion are also useful for law enforcement purposes since they can be carried by officers in their cars for quick checks on anyone suspect.

The majority of the Cogent Biometrics products are meant for law enforcement and government use, though they also make a variety of products for corporate use that use biometrics to either control physical access to an area or for logging in to computer networks.
