Biometric Authentication In Windows

There are a few different ways that you can use biometric authentication in Windows. There is software available that will let you use fingerprint scanners, as well as software that will use the way you type your password as well as your password to create a multi factoral login process.

One way to use biometric authentication in Windows is through the use of a program called BioKeyLogon which uses the way you type your password as a biometric authentication. If the password is typed in a very different way the incorrect password error message will come up, which will confuse anyone trying to break into your files, whether they know the password or not.

There are also a variety of fingerprint scanners that you can get for use with biometric authentication in Windows. Many of these can connect to your computer with a USB cable.

If you have a scanner and want to use a different type software for biometric authentication in Windows (or if the scanner did not come with software for use with Windows) there are a wide variety of programs you can try. There is a Freeware program called BioCert Biometric Authenticator Lite that will allow for up to 10 users that you can use to try out fingerprint biometric authentication to see how it works and how you like it.

Many of the programs that allow for biometric authentication in Windows are meant for companies that use networks. This makes sense because these are the most common types of clients for these sorts of systems. Companies want to protect their proprietary and confidential information, but still allow their employees to have access to it. They don't want to deal with employees forgetting their passwords or losing their SmartCards, and biometrics are more secure anyways.

One program that is available for biometric authentication in Windows for those wishing to use the program for either personal computers or networks is Ceelox ID. This software is compatible with almost any laptop with a fingerprint scanner embedded in the keyboard, and if your computer doesn't have one, they can provide you with a scanner that will work with their software. This software can be added on top of your current security system so you don't have to redo everything. It can also be used to enable Single Sign On (SSO) so you don't have to remember a ton of passwords any longer.

Biometric authentication in Windows for those who use products using Windows CE such as phones, PDAs and multi-user computers is now available as well with AuthenTec fingerprint scanners that will work for both power-on and login purposes.
